  • Overview

Join our Cloud and Automation team, a fast-moving team that's part of the ArcGIS Enterprise product group. We create the software and tooling that makes users successful deploying in the cloud and on-premises. Our users are IT administrators, and managing Esri's software is just one small part of their overall responsibility so it's up to us to ensure that the software deploys correctly the first time and that it's fast, reliable, and easy to use.

Our tooling automates the deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise for thousands of customers using Chef, PowerShell DSC, and AWS CloudFormation and deploys highly available and highly scalable architectures in complex IT environments. We are looking for a DevOps engineer who is ready to move to the next level, who wants to make a real impact on thousands of users, and who has a passion for creating great software.

    Responsibilities:

    • Our users expect our software to work the first time, the second time, and the hundredth time. You will use, design, test, and push our software to the limits to ensure it's ready for the real-world.
    • Our users are IT and DevOps folks who don't have a lot of time to experiment with the software, so explaining how to automate our software in video and written form is a key part of this position.
    • Our biggest event each year is the Esri User Conference which attracts 16,000+ users. You will need to present automation in front of hundreds of people.
    • We deliver high-quality software on time at a fast pace. You will meet deadlines while having a healthy work-life balance, so a key responsibility is making good planning decisions.

    Requirements

    • 2+ years using automation technology (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Powershell DSC)
    • 2+ years with cloud technology (AWS, Azure)
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Strong decision making skills
    • Master's in a technical field (computer science, engineering, math, or science)

    Recommended Qualifications:

    • Considerable experience in automating deployments in an operations or DevOps role using modern technology. Our software is user-focused, and the user of our automation technology is IT or DevOps.
    • Self motivated and driven. This is a fast-moving position and we don't believe in micro-management.
    • Know your way around either AWS or Azure. We have many customers on the cloud.
    • Ability to learn quickly and on your own. We are on the bleeding edge of technology, and there are no classes or books on much of the technology we are using.
    • Ability to get things done, collaborate, and follow as well as lead. We have very few managers, but are full of leaders.
