  • Overview

    Join our ArcGIS Pro mapping team and help create, manage, and coordinate help topic content to guide our users in making better maps. You’ll be part of the development team that is responsible for all aspects of mapping and visualization in ArcGIS Pro. This is a rewarding opportunity to describe mapping functionality and advocate for a clear and understandable user story.

     

    Working within a content management system, you will communicate detailed information with clarity through conceptual writing, workflow steps, and realistic scenarios. You’ll help coordinate the compilation of help topics and associated resources into released publications for inclusion into the ArcGIS Pro help framework and certify the quality and contents of the help system.

     

    In addition to writing new content for new software functionality, you’ll maintain and improve existing help topics. This includes developing textual and graphical examples of cartographic workflows and processes as well as refining content to adhere to our style guide. You’ll participate in user experience design reviews and advocate for clarity and user comprehension. You’ll work with other authors to present a consistent message across the application. This may include technical review and editing, depending on your level of experience.

     

    We are currently working on our next release of ArcGIS Pro, so now is a great time to add your writing skills to a diverse team of engineers and developers committed to delivering a host of innovative cartographic authoring tools.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Understand the current state of mapping functionality in ArcGIS Pro by working with developers and other product engineers and through ad hoc and holistic testing
    • Write and maintain conceptual and workflow documentation outlining the functionality of the mapping team by writing new content and updating and maintaining existing content
    • Build and maintain relevant and interesting scenarios and graphic examples
    • Certify help documentation on different platforms prior to release
    • Participate in team design reviews and advocate for clear and understandable workflows

    Requirements

    • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrable capabilities in technical writing
    • Familiarity with Esri’s ArcGIS platform or other GIS products
    • Familiarity with graphics applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar
    • Bachelor’s or master’s in technical writing, journalism, cartography, GIS, geography, or related field 

    Recommended Qualifications:

    • Experience writing in a content management system
    • Foreign language, or experience writing for a global audience
    • Experience writing for accessibility
    • Familiarity with Python or other scripting language
