As a member of the Corporate Marketing organization, perform and coordinate market and customer research (primary and secondary) to gain insight into Esri’s brand and growth opportunities for Esri and to support prioritization of marketing efforts. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with Business Development teams (specifically industry-focused leaders and team members) and with Product Marketing and Competitive Intelligence teams.



  • Lead analytic efforts by conducting research, collecting data, and analyzing and synthesizing information about technology trends, total addressable market, competitors, and share of wallet
  • Complete industry analysis for 50+ industries (for example, financial services, health, education, energy, utilities, telecommunications, and federal and local governments) to provide industry overview, market conditions and trends segmentation, value chain, drivers/inhibitors, overall growth and industry-specific total addressable market and growth relevant to GIS and related market
  • Support the strategic planning process by identifying potential growth areas; make recommendations on marketing strategies and align with product management to support innovative opportunities
  • Evaluate historical sales data, customer buying patterns, and customer touchpoints to surface patterns of success; identify accounts mirroring those patterns to target via marketing channels 
  • Identify and fill knowledge gaps in Esri’s understanding of its market, customers, and competitors 
  • Develop concise, audience-appropriate, actionable reports and communications characterized by their strategic insight 
  • Develop and maintain a network of information sources, including internal teams, distributors, partners, customers, and industry experts; prepare Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) for external market research support
  • Work in conjunction with other intelligence and data-gathering units of the company to optimize the research and analytical capabilities of the company as a whole (Industry Strategy, Business Development, Product, and Marketing)
  • Craft customer surveys to gather data and insights around the customer engagement/touchpoints to drive necessary improvement efforts


  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, customer, product, business, financial and/or economic research and analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing; ability to communicate detailed and complex information and ideas with written text and graphical representations
  • Strong analytic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems; ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Experience using technology to support analysis and insights
  • Experience developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and share knowledge and experiences with others
  • Bachelor’s in business, marketing, engineering, computer science, or related tech field (MBA preferred)
