  • Overview

    Are you an energetic, passionate technical writer who has the desire to inspire other developers? Blend your passion for writing and interest in developer technology to advance developer-focused documentation for Esri’s ArcGIS for Developers website. Communicate and use social media to connect with developers and the GIS development community who are building applications and solutions using our APIs, SDKs, and software development tools. In this position, you will have a hand in the developer’s success by working with teams to improve web pages, online help topics, tutorials, API references, supporting documentation, and blogs. ArcGIS for Developers provides powerful and comprehensive documentation for the entire ArcGIS platform, and you can help maximize its potential.


    Responsibilities:

    • Write conceptual topics, product documentation, developer tutorials, and blog posts
    • Help define, organize, and make changes to website content and its architecture
    • Evolve software documentation by turning specifications and design documents into early drafts of product documentation
    • Establish and define customer requirements; translate them into potential site improvements
    • Collaborate with core programmers and teams to create, update, and maintain product documentation

    More experienced individuals will:

    • Understand customer workflows and author documentation on advanced topics
    • Help define the product roadmap

    Requirements

    • Industry experience in writing developer documentation
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
    • Familiarity with current software development platforms, such as iOS, Android, .NET, or others with prior industry experience with at least one
    • Effective time management and organizational skills
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
    • An understanding of documentation workflows that use HTML, CSS, Markdown, DITA, HTML templating, and node.js
    • Bachelor’s or master’s in GIS, computer science, technical writing, or a related field, depending on position level

    Recommended Qualifications:

    • Extensive experience with ArcGIS software or other geospatial technology
    • Experience with large-scale product documentation efforts
    • Demonstrated experience with modern website development practices
