Overview

Apply your previous experience and outstanding technical skills to architect, deliver, and support configuration management in Esri’s core environments. Closely support software development teams building Esri’s flagship ArcGIS products and work with other systems and network administrators to maintain, operate, and design key configuration management services to enhance our internal and public cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as a member of the Systems Services administration team 
  • Establish/recommend policies on systems configuration, use, and services
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for our UNIX and Linux environments on physical servers as well as cloud and VMware environments
  • Develop and implement automation solutions for routine and repetitive tasks 
  • Make recommendations and/or participate in system architecture and design
  • Collaborate with IT teams to define and develop documented policies, procedures, and processes such as operational run books and system monitoring
  • Handle periodic on-call and project management duties as required

Requirements

  • 5+ years of previous systems administration experience
  • Experience with Linux, Solaris, AIX, Windows Server
  • Extensive expertise in Linux system installation (RHEL focus), configuration, administration, maintenance, tuning, and troubleshooting including Redhat Satellite server
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that give you the ability to:
    • write proposals and papers
    • act as a vendor liaison
    • make presentations to customers, client audiences, or professional peers
    • manage projects that may involve working closely with upper management
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes
  • Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management; experience using a declarative configuration management system and a broad understanding of the role of desired configuration as part of strategic organizational knowledge (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Ability to program in an administrative language (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby, Powershell)
  • Experience with various virtual environments and cloud-based platforms (VMWare, Azure, AWS, Google Compute, etc.)
  • Experience managing Apache, BIND, and Sendmail, NFS, Samba
  • Involvement with source code management systems and release automation technologies (e.g., git, Mercurial, CVS, Subversion, Jenkins)
  • Extensive experience interoperating machines in a Windows/AD-based environment
  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience

Recommended Qualifications:

  • Extensive programming background in any applicable language
  • Advanced Linux administrative skills
  • Functional knowledge of network concepts sufficient to facilitate troubleshooting and analysis of packet captures (OSI layers, TCP/IP, spanning tree)
  • Solid understanding of common protocols sufficient to engage with other SMEs for troubleshooting (e.g., HTTP, SMTP, NFS, CIFS/SMB, etc.)
  • Experience with containers (e.g., Docker)
  • Certification in Linux (RHCE), AWS, VMWare
